The FABRIC Act introduces groundbreaking new workplace protections and manufacturing incentives to cement the US as the global leader in responsible apparel production.

We’re reweaving the fabric of the US garment industry.

Garment workers are a cornerstone of the American economy and, for far too long, have faced unsafe working conditions, wage theft, and piecework pay, which often prioritizes fast fashion over the safety of workers. Likewise, the US’s vital apparel manufacturing sectors has faced decades of offshoring pressure and a lack of investments.

The Fashioning Accountability and Building Real Institutional Change (FABRIC Act), introduced in the Senate by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (NY) and in the House of Representatives by Carolyn Maloney (NY), would protect nearly 100,000 American garment workers and revitalize the garment industry in the United States by improving working conditions, reforming the piece-rate pay scale and investing in domestic apparel production.

The Fashioning Accountability and Building Real Institutional Change Act (FABRIC Act):

  1. Enforces minimum wage standards, ending wage theft

  2. Combats factory violations with workplace protections

  3. Increases transparency of brand practices

  4. Revitalizes domestic manufacturing with a multi-million dollar grant program
